As an Inventory Forester, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving timberlands inventory on over 600,000 acres of premier timberlands in Washington.
You will also be responsible for forest inventory, GIS, mapping, and data analysis on Weyerhaeuser ownership throughout the State of Washington.
The primary area of responsibility will include our Aberdeen, Pe Ell and Vail operating areas.
As an Inventory Forester, you will play a key role to the Washington Inventory & Planning (I&P) team and report to the Washington Inventory & Planning Manager within the Western Timberlands organization.
This position has the flexibility to be based out of our Aberdeen, WA; Centralia, WA; Pe Ell, WA; or Rainier, WA office.
Key Functions Administer the inventory program across approximately 627,000 acres, covering three of Weyerhaeuser's tree farms Ensure the overall quality and integrity of forest inventory data being collected and loaded into Weyerhaeuser's Forest Management System (FMS) Interface between timber cruising contractors and internal customers, ensuring data completeness and accuracy for stand management exams Update FMS inventory for pre- and post-harvest activities Support corporate development and portfolio improvement efforts with accurate inventory Assist in annual the budgeting process and effectively manage and coordinate contractors to meet targets Update stands for spatial alignment as part of the harvest volume depletion process Pursue innovative solutions for alternative inventory methods (LiDAR, UAVs, Remote Sensing) Assist in administering satellite/high-flight photography contracts for depletion Champion and role model safe working practices Build and maintain effective partnerships with operations, planning, marketing and land use teams Use GIS and other tools to provide maps, reports and analyses to internal customers Continuously improve technical proficiency in forest mensuration and related activities Support and actively participate in the design and implementation of standard Western Timberlands forest inventory work processes Work independently in steep terrain under adverse weather conditions, as well as in the office to effectively manage core responsibilities Qualifications Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Forestry, Forest Management, Forest Engineering or related natural resource discipline; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree At least 2 years of applicable experience in the forestry profession, with field and office experience in forest inventory Team-based experience in GIS systems, project management and contract administration strongly desirable Excellent understanding of statistics and sampling methods related to forest inventory Working knowledge of current GIS systems commonly used in forest management Ability to read and interpret aerial photos Strong computer skills in applications such as MS Word, Excel, Access and ArcGIS-related products Understanding of forest operations, including harvesting and silvicultural methods used in the forest industry Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate customer satisfaction and effective teamwork Demonstrated ability to manage and document information Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing A self-starter who can manage multiple assignments simultaneously and shift priorities as necessary Willing to be flexible with hours as workload varies with projects and time of year Compensation:
This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $65K - $97K based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience.
You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay.
Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement:

Paid Time Off or Vacation:
We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment.
In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use.
